Mustang, part of Nepal in 1946, proudly holds onto its Tibetan roots. We start our journey from Pokhara with an early morning flight to Jomsom, the central hub of Mustang in the Kali Gandaki Valley. The Short Upper Mustang trek starts and finishes at Jomsom. This adventure takes us deep into the nomadic lands of Mustang, where ancient traditions still thrive. We come across the nomadic lifestyle of Mustang's inhabitants, exploring their remote villages. Famous stops include the famous Luri Gompa and Tashi Kabum, home to some of the best-preserved murals in the Tibetan Buddhist world. Your journey starts with a drive/ fly (in additional cost)  from Pokhara to Jomsom. Jomsom, the incredible Himalayan city , is a great destination for tourists to visit. However, we don't stop here. It is 2,700 meters above sea level, offering incredible views of the mighty Himalayas. Once you touch down, you will find yourself in a completely different landscape, in the semi-arid land. You will reach in Kagbeni by the evening. Overnight at a guest House.

After a good breakfast, we're off on the next part of our trip, 30 minutes of drive to Muktinath. Here, you wander around the lovely villages and scenic spots, creating the perfect start for the exciting adventure that lies ahead.

Then, we drive for a 4-5 hour drive to Ghami, which is at 3,520 meters. We've got a jeep all set for the journey to make sure the ride is comfy and smooth. As we cruise along, you'll be treated to awesome views of the Mustang region. It's like looking at a beautiful painting with all the different landscapes we'll pass through.

On Day 3, get ready for a 5-6 hour walk from Ghami to Tsarang at 3,560 meters. The path takes you through ancient villages, where you can see how the local people live and follow their traditions. The walk isn't too steep, so you can enjoy the beautiful mountains and landscapes. It's like stepping into a different world, surrounded by nature and the stories of the people who've lived there for a long time.

    Essential Information

    Mustang Tiji festival

    Tiji Festival in Mustang is usually celebrated in the Lo Manthang area. Celebrated for 3 days, the Tiji festival celebrates the victory of good over evil. Locals worship a superpower called Dorje Jono, who is said to have fought with demons to save the Mustang kingdom. For the celebration, locals engage in dances and rituals that dispel obstacles and purify the soul.

    Tiji festival is the big attraction among tourist who wish to explore Nepal. It will be celebrated in May 5, 6, and 7 on 2024 in the Lo-Mantang region.So plane you one week Upper Mustang trek accordingly.

    Trek permit for one week Upper Mustang trek.

    Embrace yourself; the permit is going to be expensive. Since Lo-Manthang is a very well-preserved cultural land, the permit to enter this city is not easy to get. The restricted area permit to enter Lomanthang Rural Municipality costs USD 500 per person for the first 10 days and then $50 each day after that. You need a guide and a group of 2 people just to get this permit. Other than this special permit, you will need two other permits, I.e. ACAP permit and TIMS permit, that cost $25 and $20, respectively. These permits should be issued from Kathmandu, and Breeze Adventure will assist you for the 6 day Upper Mustang trek.

    Short Upper Mustang trek difficulty

    This 7-day Upper Mustang trek involves many flights and internal drives and only a few days of trek. This means you will only hike for about three days, and you will walk for 5 to 6 hours each day. Considering the fact that the Upper Mustang has a rather plain landscape and you do not need to hike to the higher altitude, it will be a lot easier. Also, you will not gain a lot of altitude during this trip, so the chances of altitude sickness are very low. In fact, this 7-day Upper Mustang trek is the easiest trek in Nepal and is designed for beginners. As you walk via the stunning landscape of the semi-desert land, you will forget any difficulty.

    Food and accommodation in Upper Mustang

    Internal and foreign tourists have used this trekking trial for many years. In fact, this route was used by the salt traders for many centuries. This means there are many local tea houses or guest houses along the way. You can sleep in the local hotels and have any food you choose. Even in the remotest landscape, these tea houses have Wi-Fi and hot showers for your convenience.
